The Riding Coach began in June of 1987. The instructors, Gudrun Armanski and Carol Reynolds, had been teaching horseback riding through the Physical Education Departments of both California State University, Los Angeles (CSULA) and the University of Southern California (USC). They decided to offer the classes that were available to the college students to the public.
Gudrun Armanski has been teaching physical fitness her entire adult life. She graduated from the Bavarian Sports Academy in Munich, and has a Master’s degree in Physical Education from California State University, Los Angeles. She has taught horseback riding for CSULA, USC, and currently, Glendale City College, Community Education. Her passion is horses and she is especially fond of studying racehorse bloodlines. She is a kind teacher and instructs through positive reinforcement.
Carol Reynolds has been teaching horseback riding since 1985. She got her first horse, Monika in 1985 and started training in Dressage. She has shown in dressage to the fourth level and trained to Prix St. George. She currently rides her Oldenberg mare, Isis, for pleasure. She has a MFA in Art, and a Masters in Art Education. She has taught horseback riding for CSULA, USC and currently Glendale City College, Community Education. Horseback riding has made her a bird watcher and keeper of chickens. Her passion is being a woodworker. She is a disciplined instructor who builds on basic skills.
